Many children are unable to access books due to poverty, ignorance or circumstance. The patchwork design, called “tumbling blocks,” is made using the English paper piecing method leaving in place pages from books about children who do not experience the ‘normal’ childhood for various reasons and who may not be able to play with toys or read books. One of them is a book with no words (Clown) by the illustrator Quentin Blake.
